THE Fiji 7s team piled on points in its 2018 Commonwealth Games pool plays to have a comfortable position prior to the semi-finals today.

After thrashing Uganda 54-0 in the second outing at Robina Stadium having recorded the highest scoreline of the day against Sri-Lanka 63-5, coach Gareth Baber said the aim was to beat Wales (last night) to qualify from Pool D.

Only the top four pool winners will qualify for the semis today.

"We have to win the last one. We have to beat Wales and each game we must win," he said after beating Uganda.

"It was good we scored a number of points against Uganda. We were not as steady as I wanted us to be with the ball in hand.

"We could have been a little bit sharp with it.

"At times we left the ball on the floor, but we worked hard and created some good tries and we took confidence from there."

The team maintained its composure in the two matches with Vatemo Ravouvou and Amenoni Nasilasila on target for conversions. They landed 16 conversions from 17 tries scored in the two matches.

Skipper Jerry Tuwai scored the first try two seconds into the match against Uganda after gathering the kick-off from Paula Dranisinukula.

Try scorers were Eroni Sau, Sevuloni Mocenacagi, who also scored a hat-trick against Sri Lanka, Ravouvou, Nasilasila (2), Kalione Nasoko, Josua Vakurinabili and Dranisinukula.

Fiji played Wales at 11.33 Fiji time last night.
