THE former publisher of the Fiji Times Ltd, Brian O'Flaherty, has passed away at the age of 61.

Mr O'Flaherty, who first served as publisher of the company between 1992-1996 and in 2011, suddenly passed away last Friday at his home in Dubbo, New South Wales, Australia.

Fiji Times publisher Hank Arts said Brian was a journalist of great experience and generous in his assistance to all those around him.

"Brian was a great guy who helped me personally with settling in at The Fiji Times. I had never been a reporter or had worked in a newspaper, let alone a publisher. The three months tuition was most valuable as well as entertaining," Mr Arts said.

"He took great care to settle me in for the first three months, making sure I understood the tasks at hand.

"There would not go a day without his humour and a great laugh, his stories about his experiences in journalism will always be remembered."

Mr Arts said Fiji would remember a truly generous person and his wonderful family.

Mr O'Flaherty is survived by his wife Adrienne and daughters Toni and Liv.
