Man guilty of sexual charges

A FATHER-OF-TWO has been found guilty by the High Court in Lautoka of raping and sexually assaulting his former wife.

Edvin Kumar was charged with one count of rape and one count of sexual assault and appeared before judge Justice Aruna Aluthge.

The court heard that the incident occurred on May 6, 2015, when the accused visited his wife at her residence in Sabeto, Nadi.

She lived with her two daughters and mother.

When her former husband called to inform her that he was coming over, the complainant discouraged him because they had been separated for more than a year.

On the night of the incident, the victim's mother was out and she was home alone with her two daughters. She had allowed him into the house but after the children went to sleep, the accused raped and sexually assaulted his former wife.

He threatened her by saying he would remove her eyes if she reported the matter to police. In his judgement, Justice Aluthge overturned the mixed opinions of the assessors and announced a guilty verdict.
