Weather watch: Heavy rain alert in force

Update: 3:31PM A HEAVY rain alert is now in force for Yasawa, Vanua Levu, Taveuni, and nearby smaller islands, says the Fiji Meteorological Service.

"Tropical disturbance 14F centre was analysed to the North of Fiji at 9am today," said the Nadi Weather office in its 12.30pm bulletin.

"It is slow moving and expected to drift South and possibly intensify into a tropical depression. Meanwhile, the associated trough of low pressure with cloud and rain is expected to affect the northern parts of the group from tomorrow. 

"For Yasawa, Vanua Levu, Taveuni, and nearby smaller islands, expect possible afternoon or evening showers.

"Rain and thunderstorms developing over the northern part of the group from tomorrow.

"Rain becoming frequent and heavy at times from tomorrow night."
