NEC ups awareness to local employers

Update: 8:40PM FIJI'S National Employment Centre (NEC) is increasing awareness to local employers to assist registered unemployed Fijians on work attachment and permanent employment.

Minister for Employment, Productivity and Industrial Relations Jone Usamate told Parliament yesterday that they had organised employer forums around the country to get input from employers in the area of skills demand and improving NEC services.

"There were also training institution forums to identify the training needs of our clients," Mr Usamate said.

Meanwhile, he said one of the successful programs under the NEC Foreign Employment Services was the seasonal workers' program to Australia and New Zealand.

He said the revision of the selection and recruitment process to focus on isolated rural communities instead of the urban areas had proven to be a success in improving work produced and cutting down on those that abscond.
