Update: 10:08PM THE 'Building Resource in Democracy, Governance and Elections' workshop aimed to equip participants with the knowledge they will need to advocate the issues and approaches infusing the whole 2018 electoral cycle, began in Suva yesterday.

Facilitated by the International Institute of Democracy and Electoral Assistance and the Fijian Elections Office, the workshop gathered 25 participants from civil society organisations, provincial councils, and relevant State bodies.

International IDEA's C3 program coordinator Dr Avinash Kumar said the training would assist participants in the elections processes.

"The BRIDGE workshop will educate participants about the principles of electoral system design and operation, and the fundamental precepts of constitutional rights and the rights-based approach," Dr Kumar said.

He said the workshop covered a range of topics, including electoral processes, voting systems and what CSOs were able and not able to do under the Electoral Act during the elections.

The BRIDGE workshop will end tomorrow.
